Washington Teachers’ Union President George Parker says the union will challenge the firings for performance.

The firings announced Friday total 302 school system employees,NFL Jerseys, including the 241 teachers. They come largely as a result of the first year of a new teacher evaluation system, though 76 teachers were fired for problems with their licenses.

WASHINGTON – The D.C. Public Schools are firing 241 teachers and warning more than 700 other employees that they could be fired in the next year if their performance doesn’t improve.

The evaluation is based largely on five classroom observations of teachers and their students’ standardized test scores. Those found “ineffective” on a four-tier system were fired.

Creative, fanciful couture at Franck Sorbier - NBA

PARIS – Franck Sorbier proved that in couture, it’s creativity and technical savoir faire — and not deep pockets — that really count. The veteran Frenchman’s fall-winter 2011 show in a tiny hall lent to him by Sotheby’s auction house, was at the opposite end of the spectrum from the big-budget megaproductions put on by luxury conglomerates. But the collection didn’t suffer for it — au contraire.

As Paris’ three-day-long haute couture collections wind down Wednesday,NBA, Sorbier’s show was a much-needed reminder that couture need not be smothered in sequins or dripping with rhinestones to be desirable.

An off-the-shoulder dress vibrated in bubblegum pink, while a long, lean, lacy evening gown smoldered in fiery red lace.

A bustier in papier mache from old newspaper clippings had faux nipples made from wine corks. A baroque mirror with an ornate gilded frame was strapped to the model’s chest,Coogi, like a bustier. Woven raffia in saturated jewel tones became a ravishing, African-themed sheath dress. A Plane Indian coat in leather hung with dangling fringe was paired with a ballerina’s skirt worn low around the model’s ankle.

Sorbier has gone trough hard financial times of late, and Wednesday’s collection — full of his trademark inventive, almost surrealist, looks in a rainbow of buoyant colors — represented a return to happier times.

Locked in a vicious custody battle over their infant daughter Lucia, Gibson and Grigorieva have been swapping accusations back and forth for weeks. Over the weekend, a rep for Grigorieva denied that the Russian musician had leaked the shocking phone conversations posted online over the past couple weeks.

In the sixth tape, posted on Tuesday, Grigorieva accuses the actor/director of hitting her and their daughter. Gibson explodes and retorts, “I want my child, and no one will believe you.”

Grigorieva’s attorney Stephen Jaffe later denied the allegations, saying that his client “has repeatedly stated that there is no credible evidence whatsoever of extortion by her, and she stands steadfastly by that statement.”

A rep for the dentist who examined Grigorieva the day after the alleged incident said, “Based on Dr. Shelden’s observations and his experience, Oksana sustained injuries from being struck twice, once in the side of the head and once in the mouth.”

“Extortion allegations have been brought to our attention and we are certainly going to be looking at that,” Steve Whitmore of the sheriff’s department confirmed to TMZ on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Gibson’s attorney argued to police that her team had solid proof that Grigorieva, 40, tried to extort ex Gibson, 54; the lawyer also charges that Grigorieva lied to authorities.

Asked in an ABC interview if his and first lady Michelle Obama’s college fund for daughters Malia and Sasha had taken a hit, Obama replied, “Well, part of it has.” He said it has bounced “up and down with the stock market.”

Obama also said that the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.”

The president, asked what he and Michelle are doing to teach their girls about money, replied, “What I’m doing now with Malia and Sasha is — they’re getting an allowance. They’re starting to get old enough where they may be able to earn some money baby- sitting. They’ve got their own savings accounts.”

“And what I’m trying to explain to them are basic concepts about savings, about interest,Frankie morello,” he added. “If they keep $100 in their bank account at 2 percent or 3 percent interest for six months,Coogi, this is how much money they’re going to have at the end of it.”

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said in an interview broadcast Friday he can relate to Americans striving in the struggling economy to pay bills while saving for their children’s education and their own retirement.

“It was just a few years ago that we had high credit card balances, we had two kids, thinking about college. We had our own retirement accounts,” he said, “wondering if we were going to be able to get enough assets in there.”

So when the Croatia-born, Germany-raised menswear designer announced he was launching a women’s collection for Fall.brand clothing, curiosity reached a fever pitch. Who is the Doma woman and will she, too, reject the lean and narrow? On the whole, she did.wholesale clothing. “I’m a special case,” explained the soft-spoken designer. “I like sensitive men, but I always think of women as strong, proud, wholesale and structured.” (It could be because Doma’s mother is herself a designer with her own factory, where his collection is produced.) “The Decision” that aired Thursday night ranks behind the 12.3 million who watched the NFL Pro Bowl and 11.2 million who watched an episode of “ICarly” on Nickelodeon in January.

The special was of particular interest in Cleveland, where an estimated one in four homes with televisions tuned in.

NEW YORK – The Nielsen Co. estimates that 9.95 million people watched LeBron James announce on ESPN that he’s leaving Cleveland to play for the Miami Heat,Juicy Couture belts, making it the third-most-watched program on cable television this year.

James’ future can’t yet compare to Kobe Bryant’s present, however. More than 28 million people watched Bryant win his fifth championship last month in the seventh game of the NBA Finals between the L.A. Lakers and Boston Celtics.
